ACS Data Users Group

Hello All,

I have been trying to download table data and have been getting "preparation failed" messages. I have used four different browsers and get the same result (Brave, Edge and Firefox and Chrome). Is anyone else having this issue?

I'm seeing a similar error, so this may be an issue on the Census Bureau platform. Have you checked NHGIS to see if they have the data you need?

For what it is worth, I have had persistent issues with the API interface when downoloading both ACS tables (B S C etc) and PUMS data.  I have communicated with the people at American Community Survey Operations (ACSO) and the usual answer is that they are working on getting things back on line. There have been persistent issues with the server that "serves up" PUMS data.  This was affecting both the API and mdat interfaces.  I fear that, with the current situation with Census bureau personnel and staffing cutbacks we can expect more of this.  For the last 2 or 3 weekends the servers were down and weren't back up until later on Monday or even Tuesday.  At least they were producing an error message and not just dropping the connection. I put a modification in my programs to download PUMS data via the FTP interface.  That seems to be working.
