  • 1.  GIS no GEOID for LEP C16001

    Posted 05-05-2022 05:44 PM

Hi there, I am having a hard time getting me table to join to my census tract tiger files. I want to join the C16001 table to my census tract provided by my county. The csv tables for LEP do not have the GEOID code. and they do not have the census tract clean and there is so much detail that I cannot make the join. I know I need to go through and clean the data however the tables I have used in the past made joining easy. I am in the wrong place to get these CSV's? In the past there was a an ID to the top of the csv page along with IDs to base the join on. Below is the file I have used in the past (2019), can you help me out. I am about to throw my computer out the window.

Jennifer, I think the trick is to choose the .zip option for the download and not the .csv. The .csv file within the zip file does have the geoids at the end of the data. You might have to unblock pop-ups to get the zip file downloaded.

Instead of hitting the CSV button, choose "Download Table Data". That CSV will have the GEOID. I couldn't embed an image but a screen cap is attached below.

The Census Bureau also recommends using Chrome when using data.census.gov. Sometimes the GeoID appears at the end of the table, btw.
