Median year structure built using micro data

    Hello,

    I am trying to estimate the age of occupied housing using micro data (PUMS 1-year), something similar to ACS summary table B25035.

    I found the "yrblt" variable in PUMS for "when structure first built." However, it is not what I was expecting. For example a unit is coded as "1939" if it is built 1939 or earlier. "1940" is for structures built between 1940 and 1949.

    Did anyone use this data to determine the age of housing? Or do you know how Census does that calculation?
