  • 1.  Possible to use API to get the geography file?

    Hi!

    Is it possible to use the ACS API to pull in the geography file data? I've spent a good while searching for this, but I can't find any documentation on this anywhere. I'd prefer to not have to manually download the .zip files and extract the files of interest.

    To be clear, I'm looking to download the 2016_SFGeoFileTemplate.xlx file that can be found in 2016_5yr_Summary_FileTemplates.zip as well as g20165wa.xls that is found in https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/summary_file/2016/data/5_year_by_state/Washington_All_Geographies_Not_Tracts_Block_Groups.zip.

    I'm hoping I can use the API to pull the following variables: SUMLEVEL LOGRECNO STATE COUNTY PLACE TRACT BLKGRP GEOID NAME

    If I can't use the API, but there is a file available online (that is not zipped), that will work just as fine.

    I recommend posting your question in the Census API forum (gitter.im/.../home). Someone there may be able to help you locate what you are looking for.
