  • 1.  Making sense of the S1601 Language Spoken at Home table

    I'm having a hard time understanding why two different age breakdowns in an S1601 table don't sum to another figure in the table. Specifically:

    Anyone have an idea what's going on here? Am I comparing apples to oranges?

    It appears the second number only includes citizens, whereas the first number includes the entire population. I agree that isn't immediately obvious!

    It is all about the hierarchy.
    The headings in all caps are the universe for the sub groups below it.

    with Census data tables, always pay attention the indents.
