  • 1.  Does the Census Bureau Have a Plan to Add the 2000 Census SF3 to data.census.gov?

Does the Census Bureau Have a Plan to Add the 2000 Census SF3 to data.census.gov? I was asked about this today and was surprised that this file is not already available.

Also a suggestion for the moderator - you might consider renaming this section of the forum to data.census.gov from American Factfinder.

Nothing from Census 2020 until Pl-94 data set next year -- normally March but could be delayed this time. SF3 was part of the old long form Census which no longer exists, that information would come from American Community Survey now... SF2 comes out after PL-94

Thanks Tim. I do realize that the SF3 is being replaced with a new product but some of us still need access to the SF3 for our work from time to time. I was quite surprised that data.census.gov doesn't include this admittedly older file.

I apologize, I misread your message! 2000 SF3 -- of course -- you're right it would be nice if it were there on data.census.gov -- what some of us do in the meantime is get it from it from NHGIS here
    https://www.nhgis.org/
or there may be some other way I don't know -- sorry about the mistake! -- Tim

Cliff, if you need it soon, MCDC does have complete 2000 SF3 here: mcdc.missouri.edu/.../uexplore
The MCDC has data down to the tract and block group levels for at least Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Michigan, and Delaware (state files). We also have the final national file with data for every state, county, ZCTA, place, UA, MSA, etc. in the U.S.

The OP was asking about SF3 from 2000, not 2020.

Oops.. I think you may have misread.. Cliff is looking for 2000 Census Data.

The way I understood it, data from Factfinder are being migrated to Data.Census.Gov.

Cliff - have you emailed cedsci.feedback@census.gov to ask about it?

This is a helpful table on what is available on data.census.gov, but as you note, SF3 for 2000 is not listed.
    ask.census.gov/.../!STANDARD

In the meantime, you can always get the 2000 SF3 data from NHGIS.org
