  • 1.  Question about ACS Income Threshold Cut-offs (B19080)

    Posted 05-04-2021 03:47 PM

I've noticed that the ACS upper limit figures for different quintiles in detailed table B19080 seem to be cut-off around $250,000 for the most recent year (2019). This is true for tracts, block groups, and ZCTA in the 5-year Census estimates.

I went ahead and looked into the annotation information (www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-1year/notes-on-acs-estimate-and-annotation-values.html), but in this case the documentation there doesn't seem to be relevant for the $250,000 cutoff.

Does anyone happen to know where one could find documentation for this issue? I'm trying to find a Census publication or something similar that would have the justification. Thanks!

Check out the section of their user notes on jam values (Table 5.2, page 18, page 24 in the PDF) : https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/publications/2019/acs/acs_summary-file_handbook_2019_ch05.pdf

Technically, the data in that table aren't medians, but they're similar, so I imagine they use these jam values.
