    Hello,

Working on a project to find homeschooling rate in the US, but to no success. Does anyone know how to find detail data of homeschool rate in the US? I'm looking to analyze Homeschool rate in the US, children in household ages 6 to 17.

I found an article in the US Census website with the following info. "In the first week (April 23-May 5) of Phase 1 of the Household Pulse Survey about 5.4% of U.S. households with school-aged children reported homeschooling."

However, I can find data that would give me the 5.4%

    Thank you!

I'll bet you can do better than this, but ACS table B14003 has school enrollment by age, so you can determine the number of people of school age not enrolled in school (though I suppose there are other reasons a minor might not be enrolled in school): https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table?q=School%20Enrollment&tid=ACSDT1Y2019.B14003

You might also look at the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), which probably has relevant data. A quick search found 3.3% in 2016: https://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=91

Thank you Bernie! I know the Census tracks homeschooling but it can't find the table related to the article with that 5.4%

The ACS questionnaire puts home schooling in the same category as private schools. See https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/methodology/questionnaires/2020/quest20.pdf page 12 for Person 1, for instance. Whether it is worth for the Census Bureau to break it down is the question for the next content revision cycle, but at the moment ACS does not have specific information regarding homeschooling. The Household Pulse Survey does make the distinction, see https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/demo/technical-documentation/hhp/Phase_3-2_Household_Pulse_Survey_FINAL_English_SKIPS_081821.pdf question D13. The NCES surveys, of course, have dedicated detailed modules on home schooling https://nces.ed.gov/nhes/pdf/pfi/2019_pfi.pdf.

It looks like that number probably came from the Household Pulse Public Use Files: https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/household-pulse-survey/datasets.html#phase1

The published summary tables (https://www.census.gov/data/tables/2020/demo/hhp/hhp1.html#tables) use population numbers instead of households, so you would have to tabulate the households from the PUF and the household weights.
