    Posted 19 days ago

    Dear Colleagues,

I'm pleased to share that the ASA has a project underway on re-imagining the National Center for Education Statistics. Learn more about the project here: https://www.amstat.org/policy-and-advocacy/reimagining-the-national-center-for-education-statistics/.

We also ask you to let us know about other projects to support, restore, or reimagine NCES using the form on that page so that we can coordinate and collaborate with others. There is also a sign up for our contact and update list.

I'm happy to be working with Shelly Martinez and Michelle Crosby on this project and am grateful to Peggy Carr and Lynn Woodworth for being project advisors.

Please share any ideas you might have.

    Best,

    Steve

    Dear Colleagues,

Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays.

I write to share a new article associated with this project, refresh a request, and make a new request:

    • The January Amstat News has a summary of a discussion we hosted this fall with former NCES leaders/managers regarding NCES challenges and potential solutions: https://magazine.amstat.org/blog/2026/01/01/nces-perspectives/. We hope you also find their perspective insightful and helpful.
    • The refreshed request is to please let us know about projects to support, restore, or reimagine NCES using this form.
    • The new request is to please let us know about any papers or resources that demonstrate value or utility of NCES products or that support, restore, or envision NCES using this form

    Thank you,

    Steve
