π’ Public Comment Needed on Proposed Expansion of the National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH)
The U.S. Census Bureau has published a Federal Register Notice inviting public comments on proposed changes to the National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH) before the agency submits its information collection request to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
π Key Proposal: Increase in Sample Size
One of the most significant changes in this notice is a proposed increase in the survey's sample size for the 2026 NSCH. The Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB)-sponsored NSCH sample - including age, state, and region oversamples - is proposing to expand to roughly 400,000 addresses in 2026, up from 360,000 addresses in 2025.
A larger sample means more statistically reliable estimates for state and regional child health indicators.
