I'm reaching out to share two new reports about the landscape of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data collection under the second Trump administration.
Today, the
Movement Advancement Project (MAP) released a new report that
highlights the policy impacts of systematically eliminating federal SOGI data, reviews oversight and accountability actions, and explores paths ahead for stakeholders committed to ethical, responsible data collection as one tool for advancing LGBTQ equity. The product also includes key resources for those interested in actively monitoring changes to the federal statistical system and strengthening data governance safeguards.
The MAP report incorporates findings from a new, rigorous brief by the Williams Institute that quantifies and classifies SOGI data removals from federal data collection instruments over the past year. We encourage partners to check out both reports, which are complementary and together provide a fuller picture of recent changes to the federal SOGI data landscape.
