New Web App for Exploring ACS Nativity Trends (2005–2024)

I wanted to share a new tool I've built for exploring changes in the U.S. native‑born and foreign‑born populations using the American Community Survey (ACS) 1‑year estimates from 2005–2024.

The app lets users view nativity trends for the nation, all states, and all counties and places (i.e., cities) with populations of 65,000 or more. You can type in a geography and see how the foreign‑born, native‑born, and percent‑foreign‑born populations have changed over time.

ACS 2025 1‑year estimates are expected in September 2026. Now that the infrastructure is in place, the app will be updated as soon as the new data is released, making it easy to track how nativity patterns shift across geographies over time.

The app is built in Python using Streamlit and the acs‑nativity package I released earlier this year. Source code is available on GitHub for anyone interested in the implementation.

Happy to answer questions about the data, methodology, or technical approach.
