APDU Annual Conference

When:  Jul 7, 2026 from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM (ET)

What’s the purpose?

The unconference will bring data users together to share knowledge and discuss issues of concern including availability, quality, and timeliness of public data, to provide networking opportunities, and to brainstorm about the future of public data. Members will also have opportunities to share their perspectives on APDU’s newly-released Guiding Principles for Public Data.

How does an unconference work?

Rather than have an organizing committee create a conference theme, then issue a call for papers, and finally create sessions based on submissions, an unconference is organized by the attendees themselves. Attendees suggest topics they want to discuss, and then the organizers set up (virtual) rooms for those topics. People then join the room(s) they are most interested in. The conference organizers will have moderators in each room to help monitor the discussions and to take notes so we can share with the rest of the attendees. Rooms can close when the conversations have ended.
