  • 1.  A Python App for Analyzing Immigration Enforcement Data

    Posted 07-23-2025 04:49 PM

I recently published a Python app that analyzes Immigration Enforcement data. You can view it here.

I wrote a blog post about the app that details where the data comes from, explains key concepts in the data, and walks through two of the graphs that I found most interesting. You can read it here.

    ---

Probably the most important thing to know about the app is that the data comes from TRAC's "ICE Detainees" page. I created the app because while TRAC provides a wealth of data, their site provides only has a few visualizations of the data. I wanted the ability to visualize each subset of their data, and so decided to start with their "ICE Detainees" page as a proof of concept.

I explain this in the post, but my two favorite visualizations contrast the recent rise in arrests by ICE with the criminality of the detainees. In short, while arrests by ICE are increasing, a decreasing proportion of their detainees are convicted criminals. I'm attaching images that demonstrate this below.

In case it interests anyone, I just created a video that goes into more detail about my app that analyzes US Immigration Enforcement Data.

It's part of my effort to branch out from "just" writing blog posts and experiment with sharing this work in new formats.

If you enjoy it, I'd really appreciate a like on YouTube and a subscribe to the channel - both help the algorithm decide whether to show the video to others.
